Anderson Silva's recent broken leg injury is not a first in the world of mixed martial arts. What with the whole sport putting two individuals in a cage - the sport is undeniably bound to be animalistic in one way or another.

And unleashing the bestiality from within through kicking, locking, grappling almost always ensures injuries. Here are the Top 5 most gruesome injuries in the Ultimate Fighting Championship adapted from Bleacher Report.

No. 5: Marvin Eastman's Forehead Cut, a.k.a. "the Goat's Vagina"

When Vitor Belfort was stacked up against Marvin Eastman at UFC 43, no one expected the fight to yield one of the biggest, if not the biggest cut in UFC ever. Apparently, Belfort's knee did a spectacular job at getting the now termed "the Goat's Vagina" cut done. Needless to say, Eastman lost to Belfort by TKO on the first round.

No. 4: Marcus Davis' Hematoma

Nate Diaz' several head punches on Davis surely got the latter's head ballooning. If the UFC 118's screengrab seems not gruesome enough, check out Davis' head which had 'grown to gigantic proportions' after the fight. It was a win for Diaz after Davis lost by submission.

No. 3: Brandon Vera's Three-Way Nose

The controversial UFC 125 match - or rather, no match after opponent Thiago Silva failed a post-fight drug test resulted with Vera having a broken nose. The fighter ha just recovered from a broken cheekbone, thanks to Jon Jones and now he is offering his precious face once again for torment.

No. 2: Shane Carwin's Vision Loss

Going up against Junior Dos Santos at the UFC 131 almost lead to Carwin's permanent loss of sight. Carwin was already a bloody mess by the end of Round 1 but the fight still went on. By the second round, he has incurred cuts under his right eye and on his nose. However bloody Carwin might have looked like during the fight, a quick inspection by a ringside doctor pronounced his peripheral vision OK, reports the L.A. Times.

No. 1: Joe Stevenson's Bloody Cut

Dubbed by Bleacher Report as the fight that came out of a Saw movie, Joe Stevenson and BJ Penn's fight had more drastic long term effects than the short term blood bath. That is, apart from opening up a massive cut on Stevenson's face, his loss by submission would ultimately lead to him being released from the UFC.
