Following the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its Edge variant, the newest model in the S6 line has just been leaked and its features are for those with an "active" lifestyle.

Images of what is believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active have hit the web and the pictures showed what appears to be a rugged smartphone. Based on the photos posted on GSM Arena, the smartphone is expected to have a sturdier design in a black color scheme.

Based on the photos, the camera and heart rate monitor are similar to its sister models, but the speakers were placed on the back portion. Additionally, while there are three hardware buttons due to its stronger exterior, the Galaxy S6 Active will not have a fingerprint sensor option.

FCC authorization was already made public yesterday and the Samsung device carried a SM 6890A model number.

What we Know About The Galaxy S6 Active

The upcoming smartphone will reportedly feature a 5.1-inch Quad-HD Super AMOLED display, 14nm Exynos 7420 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 16-MP back snapper supported by a 5-MP front-facing camera, and a long-lasting 3,500 mAh battery pack. This is a big boost considering the Galaxy S6 only came with a 2550 mAh unit, reported SamMobile exclusively.

It's also believed that the new phone will reintroduce popular features like the micro SD slot and removable battery, which were omitted from the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge.

Additionally, TechRadar has shared that the rugged smartphone will be topped off with a water-proof design. With a tougher build quality and design, the phone will be a good companion for sport-savvy consumers.

For those who want a bit more style, the Galaxy S6 Active will offer at least three colors -- black, camouflage blue and camouflage white.

The release of the sporty smartphone is expected to be sometime this summer. GottaBeMobile recalled that the Galaxy S5 Active was released on May 30 last year. It means that if the leaks are accurate, AT&T users could have their hands on the Galaxy S6 Active in a matter of weeks.

The successor of the flagship line, the Samsung Galaxy S6 was released around the same time as the launch of the earlier models, so analysts believe that Samsung will be releasing the Active device anytime soon.
