Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum officially launched his second run for the White House on Wednesday.

"Today I announce my candidacy for President of the United States!" he tweeted. "Join me at ricksantorum.com and let's take back America!"

Santorum, who lost the Republican presidential nomination to Mitt Romney in 2012, also posted several other tweets about his campaign promises to restore "the American dream for hard-working Americans," "scrap the corrupt tax code," "put a stake in the heart of Common Core" and "stand for the principle that every life matter[s]."

The 57-year-old father of seven also made the announcement during a speech delivered at a factory in his home state, where he criticized big government, big business and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

"Working families don't need another president tied to big government or big money," he said, according to The New York Times.

On Thursday, Santorum discussed his political aspirations on ABC's Good Morning America, telling news anchor George Stephanopoulos, "I'm ready to do this again."

He added, "It's an exciting opportunity to come back home ... I've been working on this really my entire political career."

Stephanopoulos asked him about his thoughts on the Duggar family scandal since the reality TV stars supported him during his previous run for president. However, the family has been bashed in the last week after it was discovered that their eldest son, Josh Duggar, 27 was involved in a molestation scandal.

"I'm sickened by it," Santorum said about the controversy surrounding the "19 Kids and Counting" star. "I'm just sickened by it. I pray for those girls, in particular. To have gone through that is just hard to think about."

Although Santorum was the winner up in the 2012 GOP presidential race, he will face an uphill battle during his 2016 run. He faces stiff competition from popular Republican candidates like Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Rand Paul.
