What does it take to make Forbes' list of the world's most powerful couples -- alongside Michelle and Barack Obama, Melinda and Bill Gates and Beyoncé and Jay-Z?

Colombian-born superstar Shakira and FC Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique, who made Forbes' 2013 list, have an idea -- and they are in on a secret that doesn't involve money or fame. The couple who have been together for four years and have a 1-year-old son, Milan, try to lead normal lives -- as normal as you can when you're both international stars.

Pique, who recently spoke to CNN's Human to Hero Series, that celebrates inspiration and achievement in sports, is "a decorated soccer star with a World Cup title to his name." He plays for FC Barcelona, one of soccer's most valuable teams, and is one of Spain's most popular athletes.

Shakira is also a force to be reckoned with for she has sold over 70 million albums worldwide and is a UNICEF ambassador as well as a judge on NBC's hit show, The Voice. From a musical standpoint, CNN points out, that Shakira had a No. 1 hit single in 55 countries with "Hips Don't Lie," she just released a single,"Can't Remember To Forget You" with Rihanna, and garnered 595 million YouTube views (and counting) for her 2010 World Cup song "Waka Waka," where she met Pique while shooting the video.

So how does the internationally-known power couple maintain a normal life, relationship and busy careers?

"Maybe it seems like it's really difficult to manage everything but we are trying to do it as naturally as we can," Pique told CNN's Human to Hero series.

"It's true that maybe sometimes we have to deal with some paparazzi but then I think we are now four years together -- you have to accept it and deal with it and it's no problem."

While some couples crack under the pressure, Pique insists that their normalcy is comparable to others.

"We don't do very different things than the others," he explained. "We are like a normal family and we try to spend a lot of time with our son and before that, just to be a good couple -- going to the cinema, going to have dinner. "

With "three European Champions League crowns among his total of 19 domestic trophies, as well as the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship with Spain" under his belt, there is undoubtedly pressure on the 26-year-old Pique, according to CNN's Human to Hero Series.

However, the arrival of the couple's son, Milan, in January last year was Pique's greatest score.

"It changed everything," Pique said.

"You can see that he is new in this world and he doesn't have negative connections -- he's all about laughing, smiling, being happy. It's so funny; I enjoy a lot playing with him."

Milan also helps Pique find balance and realize what's truly important in life.

"We lost 3-0 against Bayern Munich in the semifinals of the Champions League last season and I was really worried and really sad because it was a bad game and then I arrived home, saw Milan and everything changed," he added.

"It's great because he's just 12 months now and it's unbelievable, he is starting to walk and we are enjoying this time a lot."
