Former ABC drama "Forever" star Alana de la Garza has been cast for a recurring role on the upcoming second season of CBS series "Scorpion."

Deadline reports de la Garza will play a "smart, tough and driven new Head of Homeland Security," whose true motives aren't nearly as clear.

De la Garza's character will succeed former Homeland Director Merrick (David Dabrizio), who in Season 1's finale drew the wrath of Cabe by demoting him to a desk duty job that led to him resigning.

Season 2, which kicks off on Sept. 21, finds Cabe summoned back from his new Hollywood tech job to reassume his old gig as a liaison for Team Scorpion.

In the Season 1 finale, Walter (Elyes Gabel) miraculously survived a Mulholland Drive crash that left his vehicle perilously hanging from a cliff. Upon getting news of the situation, Paige (Katharine McPhee) rushes to the hospital, where she later celebrated word of his survival by blessing him with a kiss.

TVLine reported much ground is covered between those two points of the show, with the gang pulling out all the tricks to save Walter prior to him being rushed to the emergency room.

Walter owes his survival to Happy (Jadyn Wong) and Sylvester (Ari Stidham), who were first able to track down his teetering vehicle using his VIN number.

According to Spoiler TV, the "Postcards From the Edge" episode was written by Executive Producers Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton and guest starred Leigh-Ann Rose as Darla, Michael Wiseman as the fire chief, Eric Davis as Officer Kinkirk and Richard Pierre-Louis as the cop.

"Scorpion" also stars Eddie Kaye Thomas as Toby Curtis.
