Los Angeles has long been known for its "anything goes" mentality, and very rarely does odd behavior garner so much as a sideways glance. On Sunday's MTV Movie Awards, however, "Parks and Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza had more than a few people scratching their head over her antics.

For starters, Plaza made quite the fashion statement by writing "#The To Do List" on her chest in her marker. The To Do List is the name of Plaza's new movie, and she appears to have been attempting to do some preliminary advertising.

Shameless marketing is one thing, and certainly nothing new to Hollywood, but it's what she did once the festivities got under way that really got the gossip blogs talking.

While Will Ferrell, decked out in a suit checkered in dollar bills, was making his acceptance speech for the Comedic Genius Award, Plaza approached the stage. Ferrell saw her coming and abruptly stopped talking as Plaza attempted to take the award away from his. After a not-so-strenuous struggle, Ferrell held on to the award and Plaza returned to her seat.

At first, people speculated that Plaza's actions were all part of a premeditated ruse, one that Will Ferrell was in on. This theory was only further validated by Ferrell's speech once she sat down, wherein he said that the whole thing went as planned, "not too long, not too short."

It does not appear, however, that either Ferrell or MTV had any idea that this would happen. Upon returning to her seat Plaza was soon asked to leave the event, and despite his quick wit, Ferrell did not seem to be very prepared for what happened.

The incident was reminiscent of Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards. West went onstage and publicly humiliated Swift by announcing that his good friend Beyonce should have won the award. Kanye has since apologized for his behavior and admitted that alcohol had played a factor in the incident.

Aubrey Plaza does not seem to be so keen to ask for the public's forgiveness. In fact, it appears that she got exactly what she wanted out of the awards show: heaps of free publicity.

"Thanks for the advice, @KanyeWest," she wrote on Twitter. "Went better than planned! #mtvmovieawards #chrisbosh #thesecret."
