A Wisconsin resident will serve 5 years in prison for abusing his daughter according to The Washington Post. It got to the point where the girl became severely malnourished and anorexic. By the time authorities apprehended the father his daughter weighed just 68 pounds. He claimed his daughter was mentally ill and that he tried his darndest to help her. His defense also centered on the fact that he didn't notice how thin she had gotten because of his job as a truck driver.

If being starved and emotionally battered isn't enough, the girl also was repeatedly sexually assaulted by her step brother. And her stepmother physically attacked her during the poor girls 5 years in hell. Unfortunately, the girl was abused in other disgusting ways as well. She was forced to drink her own urine, among other things. It's unclear if the father took part in these crimes.

The victim's name will not be released due to this case containing a sexual assault element. For better or worse, the perpetrator's identities are being withheld as well in an effort to make sure the girl's privacy remains intact.

The father remains defiant and vehemently denied the serious charges against him.

"There was no master plan against my daughter," the man emotionally stated. "I was bailing water from a sinking boat with my bare hands."

The judge in the case, Dane County Circuit Judge Julie Genovese, didn't mince words when talking to the 42-year-old defendant.

"it's your turn to accept your part in this."

She talked about how parents need to be ever-present in their children's lives. The dad was woefully not fit to be a parent.

"What I think you did was put your head in the sand. It's your job as a dad to see it and you didn't. Really, the buck stops with you," the judge proclaimed.

"They made me feel like I was dehumanized a lot," the girl wrote in a letter to Genovese. "It's all thanks to my stupid dad and stepmom for not giving me an education and keeping me locked up for most of my life and making me feel like I was in a scary spot in my life."

Not everyone got what they wanted in this case. District Attorney Ismael Ozanne requested that Genovese give the man at least a decade in prison.

"The course of conduct would have ended in (the girl's) death but for her courage to run away," Ozanne said. Asked after the sentencing if he agreed with five years, he simply said he respected Genovese's decision.

The man's lawyer was understandably peeved as well.

"Apparently we are still a society that favors punishment," Nicholson told reporters after the hearing.

Thankfully, the girl got justice after so many years of being treated like dirt.
