International Boxing Federation middleweight champion David Lemieux is confident that he will bring down World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight king Gennady Golovkin in a fight set for October.

Over the weekend, the camps of the two champions, Golden Boy Promotions and K2 Promotions together with Eye of the Tiger Management, have already confirmed that Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) and Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) will clash on October 17 this year at the Madison Square Garden in New York, Boxing Scene reported. The war between the two knockout athletes will also be available on HBO under Pay-Per-View subscriptions.

Both fighters announced the battle through their respective social media accounts.

Co-promoter Camille Estephan of Eye of the Tiger Management, who also serves as Lemieux's manager, thinks that his fighter will be donning Triple G's WBA and IBO belts after the fight.

"We would not have taken this fight if we did not believe that David could win. We know it will be difficult, but it will be a battle," Estephan said, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

The 26-year-old Lemieux is not afraid of being crushed by the unbeaten Golovkin who poses a 91 percent KO rating. After all, Lemieux has a nearly lethal KO rating of 86 percent, too.

"I want to fight the best boxers and Golovkin is the best. He is currently at the top. When I beat him, I beat him at his best. I also have a lot of knockouts and a lot of power. This is a guy who comes forward, so I know that I won't have to run after him around the ring. It'll be a war... Golovkin has a habit of hurting his opponents mentally before demolishing them mentally... I'm not going in there to fight against Golovkin... I'm going in there to win against Golovkin," Lemieux told Canadian website RDS.

The Golovkin vs. Lemieux bout has all the potential qualities to excite boxing fans worldwide. This time, the undefeated Kazakh warrior, whose last casualty was Willie Munroe Jr., may truly be challenged by the Canadian boxer since they seem to share the same traits, based on body form, knockout rating and aggressive performance, noted Boxing Scene.

Although Lemieux had back-to-back losses in 2011 from Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KO) and Joachim Alcine (35-7-2, 21 KOs), he proved himself relevant and deserving in his nine consecutive wins after that, where seven were via knockouts.

Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, has teased that the October showdown will be worth the audience's time.

"The two biggest punchers in the middleweight division - and let me clarify, it'll be at 160 pounds - so it'll be a true middleweight championship fight but I think the fans are going to be the winners in this one. This will be Gennady's first pay-per-view fight, " Loeffler declared via Boxing Scene.
