Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was impressed with Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke's club debut. The 42-year-old believes the team's 2-1 pre-season win against Swindon is a pre-cursor for things to come in Anfield next season.

It was reported that Rodgers brought in Firmino and Benteke for a combined £61.5 million this summer.

Both players were substituted after 67 minutes of playing time in the Reds' match against Swindon on Sunday.

Firmino almost opened the scoring within just two minutes from kick-off. The 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder displayed his versatility all throughout the match.

It was Benteke, though, who ultimately opened the scoring in the 48th minute mark.

The former Aston Villa striker flung a bullet of a volley from 20-yards away to put the Reds up 1-0. Although Jonathan Obika tied the game at the 63rd, it was Liverpool who prevailed via Sheyi Ojo's 87th minute goal, Uncova reported.

Rodgers was pleased with the performances of the new acquisitions. The Irishman wasn't bashful in expressing his excitement with the new roster after the match.

"Christian's goal was incredible, whether it was a pre-season friendly or in a league or cup game. It was wonderful technique from the big guy... It finished off our pre-season preparations - a number of guys needed a game today. It was a really good exercise," said Rodgers as quoted by the club's official website.

"You see his quality. He is really bright on the ball, has got wonderful technique and has got the ability to want to get forward and score a goal," Rodgers commented on Firmino.

"For those players it was just getting them into that game situation, which is never easy as they have only been back a week or so. But they adapted and coped very well."

Rodgers went on to speak highly of the other players on the roster yet he zeroed in on the club's youngsters who he felt has displayed the right mindset at such an early stage in their careers.

"It's what the club is about - giving young players a chance. Sometimes with young players, you don't know until you put them in. Trent impressed me last year; he came up as a schoolboy and played in a practice match and did very well... It was good for him to get the chance. Young Sheyi scored a goal and was a threat. Ryan Kent was bright when he came on and showed his pace and quality. The young players coped well," added Rodgers.

Liverpool will kick start their Premier League season at Stoke City on Aug. 9.
