The Russian Football Union (RFU) has banned Chechen linesman Musa Kadyrov from football for life and fined the referee for brutally attacking a player on the Amkar Perm team during a recent league match.

The attack occurred on Sunday during a game in Grozny between the local team Terek Grozny and opponents Amkar Perm. Kadyrov lost his cool and rushed the field after dropping his flag, going on to push, punch and kick Terek defender Ilya Krichmar. The attack was caught on video and has since gone viral on YouTube.

"The ref blew the whistle and I started walking to our bench, when suddenly someone came from behind, pushed me to the ground and began kicking and punching me," Krichmar told reporters.

The RFU has fined Kadyrov $16,200 for what they call "a direct attack on players which could have caused a real risk to their health." In addition, Kadyrov has been banned forever from refereeing any football matches within the RFU.

Kadyrov says he was provoked by Krichmar, who allegedly hurled personal insults at the official. Krichmar denies these allegations, but the player has been fined $490 and has been suspended for the four remaining games left in this year's season for these alleged actions.

"[The team] wasn't happy with the officiating, words had been exchanged, but I had never said anything personal about [Kadyrov] or his mother. I know how sensitive Chechen people are," Krichmar told reporters.
