An exclusive image of Nina Dobrev's new film, "The Final Girls," was released by Entertainment Weekly.

The film stars "American Horror Story" actress Taissa Farmiga, as high school senior named Max, the daughter of an actress played by Malin Akerman, who eventually finds herself trapped one of her mother's slasher films. Dobrev and "The Hunger Games" star Alexander Ludwig play characters in the film within the film.

The actress Instagrammed the exclusive image and also revealed the film will be released on Oct. 6.

While Dobrev may be looking forward to new roles, the actress first had to say goodbye to her role of Elena Gilbert on "The Vampire Diaries" series.

In May, the actress spoke to People about her last day filming for the CW show and told the site it was a "sad and bittersweet" experience.

"There wasn't a moment that went by that I wasn't incredibly nostalgic and very self-aware and very in the moment," the actress said.

"I knew that every time I did something, it was the last time I was going to do that thing. The last time I was going to shoot with Matt Davis, Paul [Wesley], Candice [Accola], Ian, Kat [Graham] -- everyone. Every time I had a last scene, I knew that it was the last time, which is a beautiful thing to be able to appreciate in the moment. I was very aware of how lucky I am -- and how lucky I've been over the past six years -- to have this incredible family and very aware of how much I'm going to miss them."
