Fans of "Under the Dome" already know that Season 3 will be revealing a lot of questions viewers have had since Season 1, but another major spoiler was just revealed that changes the future of the show.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show, which is based off of the Stephen King novel of the same name, was originally created to be a single-season limited series.

However, the show is now well into its third season and every important question is being answered. What fans didn't expect is to hear that the dome will be coming down by the season finale, which was confirmed by CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Aug. 10.

"[The dome coming down] opens up a host of other storytelling opportunities, you just don't know what will happen when the dome comes down," Tassler said.

While Tassler's statement gives hope for future seasons, the constant low ratings that the series has been dealing with hints at the possibility of cancellation.

CBS has yet to announce any renewal or official cancellation of the series, but the show's producers have written the Season 3 finale as a potential series finale just in case. An official decision about the show's future will be made after the finale.

This isn't the first time that the future of the show has been the subject of much speculation. The show's executive producer, Tim Schlattmann, made comments at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con that led many fans to believe that Season 3 may be the show's last one, reported the International Business Times.

"We are answering all the questions ... by the end of the season," said Schlattman. "We threw a lot of stuff at you in the first two hours. By the end of the season, you will know everything. I usually don't use this language ... but things are gonna get bananas."

The "Under the Dome" Season 3 finale will air on Sept. 10.
