Shonda Rhimes' production company Shondaland is developing a new divorce comedy series for the ABC network, the Huffington Post reports.

Shondaland's new show is titled "Splitsville," and it was created by "Trophy Wife" creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins. The show will center around divorced residents living in a suburban area who come together to raise their children.

Vulture reports that Shondaland is venturing off into new territory with the development of its first comedy series "Splitsville." Rhimes and Shondaland are known for creating hit ABC dramas such as "Scandal," "How to Get Away With Murder," and "Grey's Anatomy."

News of the "Splitsville" development comes on the heels of the news that actor Cornelius Smith Jr. will be joining the "Scandal" cast next season.

Prior to his full-time role on "Scandal," Smith Jr. was the winner of the 2014 ABC Discovers digital talent competition that offers actors a chance to win a $25,000 one-year contract with ABC.

Following his win, Smith Jr. made a guest appearance on "Scandal," but was not an official cast member. Last season, he played Marcus Walker in the Michael Brown-inspired episode titled "The Lawn Chair," says MadameNoire. He later appeared on the show again for the episode titled "I'm Just a Bill."

It is unclear how Smith Jr.'s character will be incorporated into the new season, but E! News suggests that he may be added to Olivia Pope's team of gladiators.

Smith Jr.'s other television credits include "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," "Whitney," "Forever," "All My Children," and "Major Crimes."

E! News reports that "Scandal" returns this fall on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m EDT on ABC.
