Things are getting definitely heating up for the remaining five contenders of "Masterchef US." The top five contestants will face past seasons' winners in this week's episode called "Return of the Champions."

In last week's episode, vegetarian chef Hetal performed poorly in the pressure test that resulted to her going home.

The test required her, Katrina and Derrick to cook three different pasta dishes assigned by the judges — egg ravioli by Gordon Ramsay, manicotti by Christina Tosi and a squid ink pasta by Graham Elliot.

While Derrick added sage on his egg ravioli that did not quite seem to fit in the dish, Katrina had a hard time preparing her squid ink pasta because she had no idea how it is cooked.

Hetal, on the other hand, used most of her time cooking the squid ink pasta. In the end, the results of her pressure test had her bid goodbye to the judges.

With only five remaining contenders this week, the producers of the show have once again decided to try something different, not just with the challenges, but also in the format of the show for this week.

According to the synopsis on TV Guide, three former champions of the show will be back to help the winner of the mystery box challenge.

Season 3 winner Christine Ha, Season 4 champion Luca Manfe and Season 5 top chef Courtney Lapresi will be back in the show to share what they have been up to since they won the competition, noted Zap2it.

Ha is now the host of her own cooking show in Canada called "Four Senses" while Lapresi is busy with her upcoming cookbook. Luca, on the other hand, shared the time she prepared a dish for the First Lady Michelle Obama.

Apart from their updates, the three will help the mystery box challenge winner to come up with four baskets containing different ingredients that the non-winners will use for the pressure test.

In the mystery box challenge, all five contestants will have to come up with a dish that will use chocolate, tomato, pear and portobello mushrooms that will wow the trio of judges.

The winner of this test will be safe from elimination.

Only Claudia, Katrina, Derrick, Nick and Stephen remain in this week's episode, and it remains to be seen who will be the four home cooks to continue their quest to becoming the next "Masterchef."

The show airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
