With the Marvel lineup expanding every year, there have been rumors some of the major characters could be exiting in coming years. One of the men that seems primed for an exit is Captain America.

The rumor propagated for a number of different reasons. Chris Evans' contract seems to be up shortly, allowing for another fresh star to come in and assume another major character. However, there were also rumors Captain America might finally bite the dust in the upcoming "Civil War," capping the Captain America trilogy and propelling Disney and Marvel into an unknown world -- killing a major character.

That will not be the case as Evans confirmed he is going to be in at least two more movies, the two parts of "Avengers: Infinity Wars."

Evans, however, is open to returning as the Captain, thereafter, if Marvel wants him.

"I've never had such a relationship where ... I mean look at my resume. I'm used to being on set being, 'Is this movie going to be terrible?'" he stated in an interview with The Collider.

"It's Marvel. ... They can't stop making great movies. They just do it in their sleep. It's wonderful directors and producers, and actors and scripts, and it's like a playground as an actor."

Of course there is a possibility that Captain America could meet his demise at the end of the one of the Avengers films. It is unlikely that Evans has the full scoop on his character's fate at this point in the game with both films a few years out.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the Captain is one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. That said, his development as a character is rather stagnant as he is simply a virtuous man that lacks any moral ambiguity. At some point he might not fit into a world where superheroes are increasingly complex. Where their morals are questionable and their actions could lead to chaos instead of salvation . . . But that does not seem to be the route Marvel is interested in taking at the moment.

"Captain America: Civil War" hits theaters in May 2016 while the two "Avengers" movies bow in 2018 and 2019.
