Mobile World Congress is the hottest Technology show on the planet. Every year hundreds of cellular phone vendors and accessory makers take a four day pilgrimage to the city of Barcelona Spain. Each year there are a few products that really get people talking. 2014's version of MWC is no exception to that rule. We are only in day two but already some hot products gave stood out; they include the Nokia X and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Nokia X, X+ and XL phones

Three phones is a dizzying number to announce at the same time, but Nokia decided to do it. The Nokia X, X+ and XL smartphones are interesting products. It's important to note that these phones aren't aligned with the iPhone 5s and newly announced Samsung Galaxy S5. They are mid-range models capable of giving users premium features at an attractive price.

What differentiates each device? Well, the X is the baby of the bunch in both terms of size and feature set. It includes an 800x480 screen and 512 GB of RAM. That smallish screen resolution is less than the 960x480 display the iPhone 4 launched with way back in June 2010 and matches the amount of RAM found in Apple's classic smartphone. The X+ is the next step up and looks exactly the same. If you find that weird, such a consistent design language can actually help a product appeal to consumers. A cheaper phone can be mistaken for a more expensive one. However the X+ improves upon the X in a few areas. Its slightly improved specifications are more storage and memory. Both phones have microSD card slots which can expand storage by 32GB.

Now the XL is the biggest differentiator here. The XL increased the X and X+'s screen size by 20 percent or to 5-inch from 4-inch. Normally one inch makes a positive impact on text legibility and media consumption, but that may not be the case here. The XL keeps the same sub-HD resolution as its smaller counterparts. Individual pixels will be easily discernible to users. That may or may not bother you because the phone has some real positives to it such as its low price.

Sony Xperia Z2 phone

Sony's flagship Xperia Z line has gotten some good write-ups in the past, but reviewers always seemed to favor offerings from Samsung and HTC more. The Xperia Z2 is the Japanese based company's greatest phone to date and one worthy of standing toe to toe with the greatest phones on the market today. Here's a rundown of the Sony Xperia Z2's immense feature-set: phablet sized 5.2" IPS LCD screen for great color reproduction and viewing angles, Android 4.4 KitKat for experiencing Google's mobile wonderland of apps and services, and a massive 3GB of Ram. The only other phone that includes that much RAM is the Galaxy Note 3 phablet.

The Xperia Z2 clearly isn't playing around. It's meant to be pushed to its very limit. Making this phone sweat will be a chore because its ceiling is so high. In addition to the specs I previously mentioned the Xperia Z2 also includes a beefy Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, which is faster than the 800 chipset built into the Galaxy S5. Slow-motion video is available via the handset's camera application. The official name of the feature is called Timeshift Video. This feature makes the Xperia Z2 only the second phone to include slow-motion capabilities after the iPhone 5s. Oh and lest I forget to mention that the phone shoots 4K video! And it's waterproof. So next time you're at the beach bring along a Z2. That way you're able to capture some amazing high-resolution, underwater videos.

Sony Xperia Z2 tablet

The Xperia Z2 is being touted by Sony as the most powerful tablet ever created. It would be hard to argue with them. Featuring the same processor as its Z2 smartphone counterpart and an Adreno 3300 GPU users will be able to play the latest games without a hitch. Like the phone, the Xperia Z2 tablet is waterproof. The tablet is also exceeding light... it weighs just 426 grams. 4G LTE connectivity is optional; WiFi is obviously included with both models. It you choose to buy the 4G model you'll be pleased to hear that the tablet is barely heavier at 439 grams.

Not sold on the tablet? 6 free movie downloads come with the device. That's fitting because you'll want to spend every second of your existence admiring the 10.1" Full HD Triluminos with X-Reality tech.

Sony Xperia M2 phone

Continuing the trend of stylish, budget handset's Sony has decided to take the wraps off of its newest addition to the Xperia lineup. The Xperia M2 is infinitely more likable than the Nokia X series. Why? Well, it really does offer a premium feature that handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One Max don't even provide: a super high-definition qHD display. The exact resolution on the Xperia M2 is a whopping 2560x1440. Woah. That resolution contains the same amount of pixels as does a 27" Apple iMac. In fact, the nearly 3.7 million pixels in the Xperia M2 even rivals the 4 million plus pixels found in my 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Did I mention that Sony's phone packs all that eye candy into a 4.3-inch screen. A downside to the screen is that it's slightly washed out and not quite s vibrant as one would expect to see out of a super high resolution panel. One can easily forgive the screens shortcomings when they takes into account the phones portability. The Xperia M2 is quite simply the thinnest smartphone in the mid-range class. Media mavens will love the fact that the Xperia M2 comes with a 30 day free trial to Sony Music Unlimited and three free movie downloads. Unfortunately, the price is sky-high when compared to another mid-range device, the Moto G by Motorola. It also uses the same Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor.

Bluetooth Battery accessory

The Bluetooth Battery accessory is the most ingenious product announced at MWC 2014 so far. Like the name implies, low energy Bluetooth connectivity is know being integrated into standard double A batteries. This accessory is very useful if you have a rebellious teenager that refuses to put down the Xbox One controller. You can remotely turn off the battery inside his gamepad and go about your day.

Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smart watches

Samsung has learned a great deal about the wearable sector after releasing the original Galaxy Gear last year. Now with the introduction of the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo to its product line, Samsung clearly wants wearables to be as necessary a purchase as smartphones have become. Both the Gear and Gear 2 Neo are sleeker than the previous model.

Gear Fit smart watch

The Gear Fit is the best looking mobile product Samsung has ever designed. It features a long and narrow AMOLED screen on top of a flexible watchband. The Gear Fit isn't meant to read back text messages to you or make phones calls, rather it's a bonafide lifestyle product aimed at making its users live healthier, more productive lives.
