During his recent appearance at the Toronto Film Festival press conference on Saturday, Sept. 12, George Clooney made some blunt and candid remarks about GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump, Us Weekly reports.

When asked to share his opinion on Trump's disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants, Clooney responded with his own demeaning comments about Trump.

"Clearly, what he said is idiotic, of course it's idiotic," Clooney said. "Anybody who says as intolerant words as those should be laughed at and that's pretty much [what] I think eventually history will do."

Clooney also expressed his surprise toward Trump's leading numbers in the GOP race.

"Who'd have thought Donald Trump would be at 30 percent?" he asked.

TV Guide reports that Trump previously made very controversial comments about Mexican immigrants, calling them criminals and rapists.

Trump accused the Mexican government of sending people "that have lots of problems" to the U.S.

"The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else's problems," Trump said at the start of his campaign. "They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're brining those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Clooney's recent comment about Trump comes on the heels of Trump's appearance on the "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

Trump's appearance on the "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" marked the show's highest ratings for a Friday broadcast in 18 months, Variety reports. It reportedly brought in 4.5 million viewers and averaged a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49. Fallon's second highest broadcast was his debut episode for the "Tonight Show."

Social media users have chimed in with their opinions of Trump's interview and sketch on the "Tonight Show." The overall response has been positive.
