Little is known about "Kong: Skull Island" at the moment but lead star Tom Hiddleston has some few details to share about his character in the film. The actor was careful not to divulge too many details but has nevertheless expressed his excitement for the film.

Collider's Steve "Frosty" Weintraub caught up with the Marvel actor at the Toronto International Film Festival while promoting his new film "I Saw the Light" and "High-Rise." When asked to talk about "Kong: Skull Island," Tom remained coy, but was quick to say that it would be an "exciting" film. He also shared some details about his character.

"Well, 'Kong: Skull Island' is the next thing on the books. I've been digging around in some dark material, to be honest. There's something very heroic about my character in Skull Island. He's an adventurer, he's an explorer," he said.

However, Hiddleston declined to comment when asked if the film will be in modern day era or if it will be a period film. He did expound a little on the reported timeline during an interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Talking about the "exciting" concept of director Jordan Vogt-Roberts for "Kong: Skull Island," Tom revealed that the time period will be in contrast to the King Kong myth.

"There's something about the location and the time period and the cultural context of it which says something completely different about the myth. Jordan and I bonded over the power of myth and that King Kong is an emblem of something very profound about the power of nature, the sort of magic of the natural world, its mystery and our need to let it be in a way and I think that's why the power of the mythology of Kong has endured," he told Horowitz during the interview.

However, like his interview with Collider, Hiddleston declined to specify which timeline "Kong: Skull Island" will be in. Instead, he told Horowitz that the film will be "very very new and refreshing."

Actor J.K. Simmons previously told MTV in a separate interview in January that the film will take place in 1971 Detroit. In the interview with Josh Horowitz, Simmons said "there's an interesting new take" on the classic film. However, Simmons is reportedly no longer attached to the film, so the timeline may have been changed.

"Kong: Skull Island" also stars Brie Larson, Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins. Michael Keaton was previously also attached to do the movie. The film is slated for U.S. release in IMAX 3D on March 10, 2017.
