Google is on a roll with their software patches this month, and the company is continuing their binge with Samsung's pair of flagship devices.

According to Myce, the latest Android update brings Microsoft Office apps to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

The patch, with build number LMY47X.G925FXXU2COH2, installs Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to both devices. It can be noted that the Samsung flagships already have Microsoft OneDrive and OneNote pre-installed. As for the new apps, they won't come in full capacity since they have been tweaked to run smoothly on Android.

Users of the pair of Galaxy S6 devices should be patient since the update is still in its early phase of seeding, some regions and carriers might have access to it before others can. The update also weighs in at approximately 220 MB, Microsoft News reported.

Currently, not much is known on what other enhancements the new update brings. At any rate, the latest patch beckons a new era of Microsoft-supported Android devices. It remains to be seen whether smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy flagships will be seeded with Cortana and Microsoft Edge in the near future.

In the meantime, Core took to Twitter to acknowledge the update.

Google apparently had September 2015 in mind when thinking of a date to seed out its string of software patches.

Xperia Blog indicated last week that a handful of older Xperia Z units had begun receiving the latest Android OS update.

At that time, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop had landed on the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi and Xperia Tablet Z.

Not long after, three more were added to the list. These were the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact. The software update also carried a fix to "Stagefright" vulnerability, Xperia Blog reported.

The firmware update will feature the following changes, as per a previous Latin Post report:

  •  Improved toggles for volume and silent mode
  •  More control over notification animations, which will now have a simplified and enhanced design
  •  LinkedIn integration to Calendar and Contacts
  •  Superior Auto Mode will now improve camera focus, speed and accuracy
  •  Many new features for Xperia in Business, enhancing enterprise support
  •  Device integration with Sony's SmartWatch 3, which can now be used as a remote shutter button
  •  Instant calendar events; create and share smart events directly from any email
  •  Easier access to events via Calendar agenda in Email
  •  Enhanced Xperia themes
  •  New icons on the Settings menu
  •  New Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options in the Notification menu

The report also noted that an Android 5.1 Lollipop update has also been made available for users of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.
