We all have our favorite teams who we love to follow, but the players are the ones who make this game great. Each and every year notable players will finish on top in numerous categories and win awards for their great performances.

Despite missing several games this year, Venezuelan infielder Miguel Cabrera still has the best batting average in the American League. His .337 average at the plate marks the seventh consecutive year that Cabrera has hit over .300 in a season. The only player with a higher batting average this year is Washington Nationals MVP favorite Bryce Harper. Harper is batting .341 this season, and he also leads the NL in home runs with 41. The Nationals won't be making the postseason, but Harper will more than likely win the NL MVP award.

Only Chris Davis and Nelson Cruz have more home runs than Harper this year. Davis previously led the league with 53 home runs in 2012. Unfortunately for Davis and the Orioles, he does lead the league in strikeouts with 196.

Mike Trout has the highest WAR in the AL this season.

Speaking of MVP favorites, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is having an extremely productive season. Donaldson leads the entire league in RBI with 120 as well as runs scored with 117. His 338 total bases also lead the league. Thanks to Donaldson's great season, the Blue Jays are poised to make their first postseason appearance since 1993. This is the first time in Donaldson's career that he has more than 100 RBI in a single season.

On the mound, Jake Arrieta stands alone this year. Arrieta is only 20-game winner in all of baseball, and the Chicago Cubs are skyrocketing because of it. Arrieta hasn't lost a single home game this entire season, and his 1.88 ERA ranks second in the NL. Only Zack Greinke has a better ERA this season. Greinke has actually been playing better than fellow Los Angeles Dodgers teammate Clayton Kershaw this season.

Dallas Keuchel and Felix Hernandez lead the AL in wins this year with 18. Keuchel and the Houston Astros haven't been playing great lately nor have Hernandez's Seattle Mariners. Hernandez led the league in ERA last season, and he has the most shutouts this year.

Staying on the mound, Mark Melancon is running away with Reliever of the Year Award. Melancon has 49 saves this season for the Pittsburgh Pirates, nine more than anyone else in the AL. The Pirates are currently on a five-game win streak, and are now four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central.
