Ellen's "best photo ever" was clearly shot using a Samsung mobile phone but a report notes that her backstage selfie was from an iPhone.

"Minutes after promoting Samsung on the #Oscars stage, Ellen returns to her iPhone. Incredible. pic.twitter.com/LVsD2YIoXj," tweets Mark Gurman.

The screenshot revealed that the Oscars host actually took a selfie with Channing Tatum and tweeted the snap via Twitter for iPhone.

Other twitter users are saying that Ellen's tweet might not have originated from her phone at all.

Sahana ‏@itsmesahana tweets, "@markgurman @drew To be fair, she probably didn't post this picture herself in the first place. She's got a team for that!"

According to CBS News, Ellen also shot a photo of Jared Leto and shared the snap to followers via Twitter for iPhone.

"So handsome. He's on my live show tomorrow. I love @JaredLeto pic.twitter.com/3LdPAlJHiz," she said in the tweet.

Nevertheless, Samsung's presence at the Oscars 2014 has been a success for the South Korean tech giant in terms of PR, notes USA Today.

Citing Kontera, USA Today says that Samsung had more than 40,000 social mentions during the event. Ellen's star-studded selfie which captured herself, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Kevin Spacey, Lupita Nyong'o, Peter Nyong'o Jr., Channing Tatum and some Jared Leto on the side, has been retweeted at least 3 million times.

Even without the word "Samsung" on the tweet, Kontera, via USA Today, reports that "with that tweet, consumer consumption of the Samsung name instantly multiplied 27 times over, with Samsung mentions topping 900 per minute during the stunt."

The Oscars 2014 host has not yet reacted to reports of her using the iPhone backstage and endorsing rival Samsung on-stage. Though the event is indeed "incredible" as Mark Gurman puts it, it is certainly not a first.

CNet recalls that Alicia Keys was also caught in a similar situation, but with Blackberry. The singer reportedly tweeted from an iPhone after being named BlackBerry's creative director. Alicia Keys later remarked that she was hacked.
