Idris Elba recently revealed information about his villainous character in "Star Trek: Beyond" during an interview with MTV.

Elba is currently doing the press rounds for the release of his new film "Beasts of No Nation," the first Netflix film and one that is gaining Oscar contention. And during the interview with MTV, the actor said his character's objective is to end the world.

"Simon [Pegg] and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character. You've never seen me play a character like this," Elba said.

"I think 'Star Trek' has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like 'he's a guy who wants to end the world,' there's no doubt about that. But in this version of the film, there's a slightly different twist to that. It's quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the 'classic bad guy is a classic bad guy' tone."

Elba's casting was always rumored until a commercial for a campaign announced his role officially. Elba is a Golden Globe nominee and is currently in the Oscar conversation for his supporting role in "Beasts of No Nation." The actor is best known for his work on "Luther" and has also starred in the big budget film "Pacific Rim." The actor has also been in "Thor," "Prometheus" and "Thor: The Dark World." He is scheduled to appear in "Bastille Day," "Finding Dory" and "The Jungle Book."

"Star Trek Beyond" is scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release and will star Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Sofia Boutella. The film was directed by Justin Lin and was written by Doug Liman and Pegg. The movie is supposed to start off where the last film in the series "Star Trek Into Darkness" left off.
