"Pitch Perfect 3" has obtained a new release date.

Universal Pictures announced through a press release that the third installment in the highly successful franchise would be in theaters on Aug. 4, 2017.

The film is being pushed back two weeks after its original release of July 21, 2017. The push was due to the fact that Universal decided to delay "Pacific Rim 2" indefinitely and the company had to fill the void.

Additionally the studio wanted to prevent going up against Christopher Nolan's mysterious new film, which Warner Bros. scheduled for July 21, 2017.

The film also comes out a week after Sony's new Spider-man film with Tom Holland. That movie is set for release on July 28, 2017.

Nothing is known about the actual plot of the film but according to Elizabeth Banks who directed the sequel and who is on board to produce the third film, the team is hard at work with it. She told EW, "We are hard at work on figuring out what the next chapter for the Barden Bellas is going to be. They're gonna sing, they're gonna dance, and they're gonna be funny ... I don't want to give anything away!"

At this point no director has been set for Pitch Perfect 3. However, it is known that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will reprise their roles for the new film.

The sequel comes after both films over-performed at the box office. This past summer the sequel made $183 million, which was $120 million more than the original film which made $65 million. Both films were received with good reviews and continue to have a huge audience after its theatrical run.

An August date should help the film be yet another success especially since studios generally leave that month to release smaller films.
