After we first heard the announcement in January, the HBO Go app is finally released on the PlayStation 3 console and will be available for download as of March 4, 2014. The app was originally released on the Xbox 360 console in 2012 and is said to be released to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at some point later on although there is no official release date at this time. The senior vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Phil Rosenberg, has mentioned that they are "working diligently with HBO to bring the HBO Go app to PS4", so perhaps there won't be too long of a wait for PlayStation 4 users. The app is also available for download on the iPhone and iPad, along with several other devices. The PlayStation 3 is the latest release of the app to users, with more releases to come in the future.

The app allows users to watch all of their HBO television shows instantly, with regularly updated episodes, as well as other programming featured on the HBO television channel. It can also stream movies, comedy specials, and other content on demand. With the upcoming new seasons of shows such as Game of Thrones and True Detective that will be featured fairly soon, the app gives users just enough time to catch up on their favorite shows just before the season premieres.

Although available for download on any PlayStation 3 console, the app requires an HBO cable subscription to stream programs and movies on the console. With the cable subscription, the HBO Go app is free to download. The participating cable providers that feature the HBO channel include DirectTV, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and Comcast. Although the app that is available on Xbox requires an Xbox Gold membership, the PlayStation 3 will not require a PlayStation Plus membership to use the app.
