One of the most iconic combat game series will add another game to their haul of popular titles next year. Excitement for "Street Fighter 5" is at an all-time high, thanks in part to Capcom's strategy of unveiling the game's characters via installments.

"Street Fighter 5" will see the return of the series' all too familiar but highly enjoyable fighting formula, executed by a collection of new and returning faces. The lineup will be composed of 16 fighters at launch. This relatively meager pool has many devoted fans wondering if their favorite veterans will make the final cut.

As of the moment, Capcom has revealed 12 fighters, with two more newbies expected to fill in the last four spots. Bearing in their are only two veteran spots remaining, Capcom recently announced that the Russian grappler Zangief will be joining "Street Fighter 5" when it debuts next year.

According to the official PlayStation blog site, the "Red Cyclone" was unveiled at the Russian gaming expo IgroMir.

Zangief's announcement trailer, which you can view below, was also shown at the event. The teaser showcased the wrestler's familiar moves and some cool albeit physics-defying tricks.

Staying true to the combat style from which he is based on, Zangief's repertoire consists body slams including various suplexes and piledrivers. His new abilities are the "V-Trigger: Cyclone Lariat" and "V-Skill: Iron Muscle."

The "Cyclone Lariat" is exactly what its name implies. Once activated, Zangief outstretches his enormous arms and spins his entire body like a cyclone. Players can make Zangief spin faster by mashing the V-Trigger buttons. Holding the buttons lets the Russian grappler continue spinning, thereby generating multiple hits.

The "Iron Muscle" ability lets Zangief absorb one attack to maintain his health. Holding the medium punch and medium kick while pressing forward moves Zangief closer to opponents. Once the buttons are released, Zangief flexes his muscles and hits the opponent straight on, if close enough.

In terms of brute strength, not many in the "Street Fighter" universe can compete with Zangief. The "Red Cyclone" is obsessed with training since he believes a body with perfect muscles is the only way to true victory.

Zangief has officially snagged the 13th spot on the "Street Fighter 5" roster. This means veterans like Akuma, Blanka and Dhalsim might be shelved for the time being.

Luckily, Game Rant pointed out that more fighters will be added to the game as DLC. "Street Fighter 5" will be exclusive for PlayStation 4 and PC. It will launch on both platforms in early 2016.
