New York Mets ace Matt Harvey is one of the best young starting pitchers in the game and is under team control until 2019 but is arbitration eligible in 2016, per The Boston Globe. He was having a great season in 2013, even starting in the MLB All-Star game before undergoing Tommy John surgery that made him miss the entire 2014 season.

Harvey bounced back in a good way this season as he finished with a 13-8 record, posting a 2.71 ERA and striking out 188 batters in 189.1 innings, per Baseball-Reference.com. He also made headlines recently, in a bad way, though, as his agent Scott Boras said that Dr. James Andrews, who performed Harvey's surgery, advised that the player's innings should be limited to 180, per USA Today.

The 26-year-old pitcher seemed to favor his agent than the Mets, which was met with a lot of backlash from fans, the media and players. However, Harvey backed his agent's comments as he wrote on The Players' Tribune that he will pitch in the playoffs.

"I will pitch in the playoffs. I will be healthy, active and ready to go. I am communicating with my agent, my doctor, Sandy and the entire Mets organization. I can assure everyone that we're all on the same page," Harvey wrote on the Tribune.

With the whole controversy, The Boston Globe sees this as an opportunity for the Boston Red Sox next season to try and trade for the right-handed pitcher. The report noted that the Red Sox are in need of a starting pitcher while the Mets need some offense, so a trade could possibly work.

The report adds that the Red Sox can make a package deal of prospects with the Mets' Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts, Blake Swihart, Yoan Moncada and Manuel Margot. Mass Live sees Harvey as a better risk than signing soon-to-be free agents Johnny Cueto, who struggled after his trade to Kansas City, and David Price, who is a great regular season pitcher but falters in the postseason with 0-6 record and a 2.53 ERA.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Mets can control Harvey until 2018 while the player can increase his salary next season. But with Scott Boras as his agent, Harvey looks unlikely to reach an extension as Boras is known to have never allowed his clients to sign an extension before hitting free agency.

Mass Live adds that with the 26-year-old's arm issues might potentially impact on what both parties will be seeking after the season. As for the Red Sox, they just have to wait and see what the Mets will be doing after the season, especially that they have a legitimate chance to win the World Series this year, per Huffington Post.
