Ryan Murphy seems like he can do no wrong as "American Horror Story: Hotel" had some of the most impressive ratings for FX.

After last Wednesday's premiere of the new season, the show delivered the second-best ratings for a telecast on the network. The ratings were behind the previous AHS season entitled "Freak Show."

This is good news for a series that has already been on for five seasons and which has remained popular for a long time. According to Variety the Nielsen estimates for "American Horror Story: Hotel" averaged 9.1 million viewers.

These figures included 6.13 million adults ages 18-49 and 3.70 million adults ages 18-34. In comparison "Freak Show" averaged 10 million viewers, including 6.54 million adults (ages 18-49) and 4.08 million adults (ages 18-34).

However, "Hotel" still has a chance of moving ahead of "Freak Show's" premiere when the full data is tabulated in about 60 days.

Additionally the reported numbers do not include non-linear viewings which include encore presentations of the premiere.

"AHS" still remains one of the most popular series on television and it was proven last season when "Freak Show" averaged roughly 12.64 million viewers in combined viewings from VOD and first time airing.

The show was extremely anticipated as it marks Lady Gaga's Prime Time TV debut and the majority of the promotion centered on her character.

Aside from Lady Gaga, the show stars Matt Bomer, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley, Emma Roberts, and Denis O'Hare.

"American Horror Story" is among the most acclaimed TV shows currently on air and it has scored a number of awards, including one Golden Globe for former cast mate Jessica Lange and several Primetime Emmys in below-the-line categories including Costume Design and Makeup.

FX is currently airing the show Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
