The Mexican boxing sensation Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is motivated to score the "biggest win" of his career against World Boxing Council middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

"Canelo," who only got defeated by unbeaten warrior Floyd Mayweather Jr., per BoxRec, knows the importance of capturing the crown from the veteran Puerto Rican fighter, Boxing Scene noted.

"For me, all of my victories are great, but this one would mean more because of everything that it entails and because of everything that comes with it. Beating Cotto would be the biggest thing [for my career]," the former titleholder said.

Alvarez told El Nuevo Dia that he wants to beat someone like Cotto, who one day will be a "legend in boxing" because he also has his eyes in becoming a legend, too, another Boxing Scene report noted in August.

Aside from the WBC crown, he could get to have a shot for three more championship belts as the winner of their clash is mandated to face the victor of the Oct. 17 Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux unification showdown.

'Canelo' is boxing's new star

The young Mexican fighter may not be far from realizing his dream as Hall of Famer Robert Duran already regards him as boxing's new star, per another Boxing Scene report. It is a compliment from the legendary warrior dubbed "Hands of Stone" as he is not even impressed by the undefeated Mayweather Jr.'s accomplishments.

Duran thinks Alvarez' "youth and power" will be his weapon to win against Cotto, whom he described as someone "no longer in his prime."

WBC Silver welterweight titlist Amir Khan also believes that the 25-year-old warrior will triumph in the explosive fight by way of a knockout, the Boxing Scene noted.

"I don't think Cotto can deal with youth, strength and speed of 'Canelo,'" said Khan.

"Canelo" is no match for Cotto?

However, the current World Boxing Organization super welterweight champion Liam "Beefy" Smith thinks the Puerto Rican warrior will retain his WBC crown despite having a great fighter like "Canelo" as his challenger.

"A lot of people say Canelo will be too fresh but I fancy Cotto, I just think he's got a little bit more to his game. That doesn't mean to say I don't like Canelo, I think he's unbelievable, he's world class, but I just have a feeling that Cotto is going to do it," Smith told Boxing Scene.

The undefeated fighter has a high regard for the 34-year-old boxer that he even wants to be Cotto's sparring partner as he trains for his showdown against "Canelo."
