Google Glass is the leader in a class of groundbreaking technical inventions that is currently generating a huge buzz in the technology community. This Google project was first publicized in 2012 casually called "Google Goggles" when the idea first came out.

What is Google Glass?

Google Glass is an avant-garde invention beyond the smart watches.  It looks like a smart phone except that it was designed as a pair of glasses. As the name implies, it is a stylish pair of glasses but without lenses (a prescription version is available with lenses sold separately). Unlike ordinary glasses, it has a battery-powered heads up display (HUD) which rests a little over the right eye. Simply by looking upwards, the user will be able to see the display.

Expected Release Date

The expected release date was set to take place last year but it did not come through. However, Google Glass was made available to a group of enthusiastic users in the United States through the beta called Google Glass Explorer. Those people were granted access to the Google Glass Explorer edition at $1,500/pair.

Google aims to launch Google Glass later this year because they are waiting for the right amount of widespread consumer awareness.

How much will Google Glass cost?

Google assured that the Google Glass consumer product will cost less than the test product due to economies of scale but have not disclosed yet the actual price. $200-300 could allow consumers to purchase it as an extra gadget to their mobile phones but several sources speculate that it will cost $500-600 during its initial launch.

Google Glass Apps

MyGlass is the companion app to Google Glass.  It needs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. The MyGlass app facilitates GPS and SMS messaging. Google Glass is voice-activated and users start it by saying "ok Glass".
