A federal judge has blocked Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's order to defund Planned Parenthood and ruled that the state must continue to provide funding to the women's reproductive health clinics for two more weeks while Jindal's legal battle over funding ensues.

After hearing arguments on Friday, U.S. District Judge John deGravelles issued a temporary restraining order on Sunday requiring Louisiana to continue providing Medicaid funding to the organization's clinics, reports The Associated Press. The judge also noted that putting a block on funding for the pro-choice nonprofit would prevent over 5,000 low-income patients from receiving access to medical services like cancer screenings and gynecology exams.

Jindal, who is running for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, launched an effort to strip the women's group's funding following the July release of secretly recorded videos that accused Planned Parenthood of selling the tissue of aborted fetuses. But, as the judge noted in his ruling, Planned Parenthood does not provide abortions in Louisiana.

"In fact, uncontradicted evidence in the record at this time is that PPGC does not perform abortions in Louisiana, is not involved in the sale of fetal tissue and none of the conduct in question occurred at the PPGC's two Louisiana facilities," deGravelles wrote in his 59-page ruling.

Melissa Flournoy, the state director of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, issued a statement praising the judge's order.

"This ruling is a victory for the more than 5,200 women and men in Louisiana who rely on Planned Parenthood for care through Medicaid," she said, according to Reuters. "It is shameful that Governor Jindal is trying to score political points by blocking women's access to critical health care."

Raegan Carter of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast called Jindal's action against Planned Parenthood clinics an illegal effort to gain political points with pro-life voters.

Meanwhile, Mike Reed, a spokesman for Jindal, promised the governor "will appeal this decision and continue to fight to ensure Planned Parenthood no longer receives taxpayer funding."
