New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is having quite a postseason as he is batting .357 with five home runs and eight RBIs in eight games, per Baseball-Reference.com. Along with ace Jacob deGrom, they are leading the Mets to a possible World Series berth as they are now up 3-0 over the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS.

He has homered in five straight games, including game three of the NLCS, which tied a postseason record held by Carlos Beltran. Murphy is having one hell of a postseason, having hit a home run in back-to-back games just once in his career, per ESPN.

The 30-year-old is also set to becoming a free agent in the offseason, and his hot bat should lead to a few bigger offers as he has increased his value. In a report by New York Daily News, the Mets are not planning on re-signing Murphy despite his performance with one source saying, "He's been great, really great but it changes nothing."

"If they are keeping their payroll in the same neighborhood, they can't afford to keep him. He's making $8 million now, will probably get a bump on that and he's going to want some years," one rival general manager added.

In a separate report by the New York Daily News, there is a slight chance that the rivals New York Yankees will sign Murphy to a deal similar to what they gave to Chase Headly -- a four-year, $52 million contract. The report noted the Yankees have a weakness in second base with prospect Rob Refsnyder and Dustin Ackley as the only options coming into spring training.

ESPN added that the Yankees may very well be interested with Murphy due to his versatility, having the ability to play first, second and third base. However, there are other options in the market as Asdrubal Cabrera, Howie Kendrick and Ben Zobrist are also free agents this winter.

The report also gave some other possible destinations for former all-star second baseman, with the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals as most likely to go after Murphy. The Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers are also possible suitors for his services.

As for the Mets, they have 21-year-old prospect Dilson Herrera and Wilmer Flores, who can also play the position, per The New York Post. Flores is currently the team's shortstop as Ruben Tejada is recuperating from a broken leg suffered in the NLDS.
