In the upcoming episode of “The Blacklist,” Red (James Spader) informs his fugitive partner Liz (Megan Boone) that, in order to clear her name, they need to find the next person on the blacklist.

A teaser for Episode 6 of Season 3, titled “Sir Crispin Crandall,” shows that the hunt for the next blacklister might be a deadly one.

“Lives are at stake,” Red says in the clip. “The fate of nations.”

The teaser reveals that the FBI agents' search for this particular blacklister has led them into a trap: a room that appears to be filling with some kind of mysterious gas.

Although Spader seems to be a natural at pulling off the style and demeanor of a criminal, he never considered that he might have an actual talent for that kind of life. Speaking to Time, the 55-year-old actor revealed he never reflected on the idea.

“I’m playing the character. I don’t relate it to my life in any way,” he said. “I don’t think if you’re playing a bank robber ... No matter what the process is, I don’t relate it to my own life.”

Spader, who has been on the big screen for decades, also admitted to noticing a new kind of fame coming to him from his recent role on the dark TV series.

"I don’t know if there’s a way you can measure that,” he said, “I know that one’s visibility is very high on television, even with an unsuccessful show!”

With films like “Pretty in Pink” and the latest “Avengers” sequel on his resume, Spader is used to fans coming up to him for all kinds of work.

“It could be the most obscure movie you’ve made,” he said. “I’ve gotten used to the fact I will be surprised.”

“The Blacklist” airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
