A Taco Bell executive lost his job after he assaulted an Uber driver in Costa Mesa, California on Friday, Oct. 30.

NBC News reports 32-year-old Benjamin Golden was formerly the leader of mobile commerce and innovation initiatives for Taco Bell.

"Given the behavior of the individual, it is clear he can no longer work for us," Taco Bell said in an email to CNBC. "We have also offered and encouraged him to seek professional help."

Benjamin's actions caught nationwide attention after footage of the assault went viral.

In the dashcam video, Golden appears deeply intoxicated, failing to give Uber driver Edward Caban clear directions and seemingly dropping in and out of consciousness.

Eventually, Caban pulls over and asks Golden to get out of the vehicle. When Golden refuses, Caban threatens to call the police. Golden then begins to strike Caban over the head several times, until the driver is able to force him out using pepper spray. Caban then followed Golden out, yelling to a passerby to call police.

Authorities later arrived to find Golden vomiting from the pepper spray. He was arrested and charged with assault and public intoxication.

The 23-year-old Caban spoke with ABC7 Eyewitness News about the event.

"I didn't think something like this would happen this early in the night. That's why I stopped driving 2 a.m. shifts, for this very reason," Caban said.

The driver said he purchased a camera due to previous incidents with customers, but this is the first time he had ever been assaulted. It's also his last, as Caban said he no longer feels safe working for Uber.

Uber spokeswoman Kayla Whalin told the Los Angeles Times Golden is permanently banned from using the service.
