World Boxing Council middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will pick next fight with the "greatest benefit" after his bout against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Is there a high chance for a Cotto-Canelo rematch?

Cotto suggested that there's a possibility that a fight with mandatory challenger and WBC interim champion Gennady Golovkin may not push through, even if he successfully defends his title against "Canelo," Boxing Scene reported. He stressed the importance of looking into boxing as not just a sport but as a business, too.

"People forget that this is a business. We'll look at what would produce the greatest benefit, and if Gennady Golovkin is who offers the best benefit — then so be it," Cotto said.

Thus, there could be a high chance for a Cotto vs. Alvarez II, if this happens, as fans of these two great boxers may want to see them again on the ring to validate the victory of whoever will triumph in November. With the strong rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico in boxing, there's a great chance for it happening.

However, it may not be for the WBC title anymore. Golovkin, being the mandatory challenger, should face whoever wins in their fight, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed, per a separate article from Boxing Scene. Sulaiman suggested that the winner may only proceed to face another boxer if and only if "Triple G" gives his go signal.

Will "GGG" allow to be set aside again?

It seems Golovkin will not be easily pushed this time. He reportedly already let Cotto battle with Daniel Geale in June and allowed for him to fight Alvarez this November, despite him being the mandatory challenger. Therefore, it may be very unlikely for "Triple G" to let someone get a shot at the WBC crown for the third time, as it will be a critical hurdle on his goal of unifying the middleweight division.

Moreover, "GGG" still remains firm on his stand about catch weight, although both Cotto and "Canelo" want to fight below 160 pounds. For him, it's not the business side of boxing that matters, a separate Boxing Scene article noted, citing his ESPN Deportes interview. Yet, "GGG" stated that only Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make him come down to 154 pounds.

"The division [limit] is 160 pounds, this is my [weight] class. I am a fighter, I do not come to do business...I don't come to fight at 156 or 158, that's just business," Golovkin said.

If the winner of the Cotto-Canelo decides to not face Golovkin, the unbeaten Kazakh will get the WBC crown easily. Will the two fighters just fight for an empty throne?
