Microsoft released a new patch to address display issues reported by owners of the new Surface laptop and tablet.

Though users have reported a number of early problems since the devices' release on Oct. 26, the most annoying was the screen flickering. While some Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 owners were previously able to engineer their own solutions to the screen issue, a firmware update from Microsoft should fix the problem permanently, Tech Radar reports.

The update for the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 is called HD Graphics 520 driver update (v20.19.15.4308). According to the tech company, it will fix several display issues, including some that could result in screen flickering, CNet reports.

The update for both the Surface devices includes general stability fixes as well. For Surface Book owners, the update will improve performance of the keyboard and trackpad.

Other display issues have also plagued the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, with some users reporting color problems when scrolling on a web page.

Meanwhile, the new devices have also experienced a major issue relating to battery life. Microsoft will soon need to address how quickly batteries currently drain, likely due to the activity of the Windows Hello feature, the login system that lets users gain access to devices with their fingerprints or faces.

The update for the Surface devices might not be ready for everyone right away, as it will arrive for certain customers in stages.

"When Surface updates are provided via the Windows Update service, they are delivered in stages to Surface customers," Microsoft said in a statement on its updates page. "As a result, not every Surface will receive the update at the same time, but the update will be delivered to all devices. If you have not received the update then please manually check Windows Update later."
