Beyoncé is currently facing a backlash from the Houston LBGT community, after activist Carlos Maza unsuccessfully reached out to the singer for help.

With the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance threatened, Maza wrote a blog post asking for the 34-year-old "Crazy in Love" singer's assistance in speaking out against legalization of discrimination against LGBT people in the star's hometown, according to Mirror.

"With HERO, Beyoncé had a golden opportunity to oppose an active effort to legalize discrimination against LGBT Houstonians," Maza wrote. "It wouldn't have taken more than a single Instagram post, but she would have inserted herself as a real, active ally, proving her support for the LGBT community is more than mere lip service."

Local supporters, who worked to prevent the public repeal vote of HERO, used the hashtag #BeyBeAHero to get the singer's attention and inspire her to jump onboard the campaign. The mission failed, however, as Beyoncé remained silent.

After the singer declined to speak up for the cause, one Twitter user wrote of her frustration with the singer.

"I am disappointed in beyonce. Yeah, I said that. Bey, you were not a HERO. #BeyBeAHERO," user mariahboone tweeted.

While many people were disappointed in the singer, others defended her.

One user wrote, "Beyonce isn't above criticism, of course, but I don't get #BeBeAHERO. OMG SHE DIDN'T SPEAK ON THIS ONE ISSUE IN HOUSTON! SHE HAS FAILED US!"

In the past, Beyoncé spoke about her support for the LGBT community with OUT magazine.

"What I'm really referring to, and hoping for, is human rights and equality, not just that between a woman and a man," the singer said.

Beyoncé last released her self-titled album on Dec. 13, 2013. The album produced the singles "XO," "Drunk in Love," "Partition," "Pretty Hurts" and "Flawless."
