Saturday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here.

The grand prize is currently at $40 million, with a cash value of $24.9 million.

Last Wednesday’s winning numbers were 2,12,17, 20, and 65; and the Powerball was 17. There were 660,767 regular winners and $7,013,006 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 293 million. The odds of simply doubling your money on a $2 ticket are one in 38.

Lottery officials report that a Powerball player in Tennessee has matched all six numbers for Wednesday’s drawing, winning a jackpot of $144,100,000.

According to The Tenesseian the winning ticket was purchased at a place called Hobson Tobacco & Beer. Although the store has already been presented with a $25,000 check for selling the winning ticket there is still no news about who the ticket holder is.

Whoever the winner is, perhaps he or she is considering how to best stay under the radar after coming into sudden wealth.

According to PacificWealth a lottery winner should make every effort to remain as anonymous as possible. If not, the winner increases his or her chances of falling prey to lawsuits, harassment, and requests for money from family, friends, and even total strangers.

Outside of holding on to a Powerball ticket, the most important thing a Powerball player can do is make sure to check the winning numbers.

As the The Times-Picayune reports, a winning Powerball ticket that was sold in Marrerro, Louisiana has gone unclaimed for five months and will expire next month.

The ticket, which is worth $10,000, was for the June 6 drawing and will be worthless after Dec. 3.

If the ticket goes unclaimed the prize money goes back into the reserves for future prize winners.
