The title for the upcoming episode of "Reign," "In a Clearing," seems ironic, as King Francis (Toby Regbo) is anything but in the clear.

In a promo for Episode 5 of Season 3, the prophet Nostradamus (Rossif Sutherland) makes his reappearance. He tells Catherine (Megan Follows) of a dark vision.

"There are other images I saw concerning Francis' fate," the prophet says. "A flowering tree unlike any I've seen, strange and dreamlike. And then there is blood."

The teaser also shows Mary (Adelaide Kane) screaming in apparent anguish and ripping a banner from the ceiling.

Last week, "Reign" fans were given hope again after Francis was brought back to health by the witch Delphine (Alexandra Ordolis).

Mary was prepared to pay the ultimate price to restore life to her lover when she had Delphine perform the ritual. Yet it wasn't Mary who lost her life to magic, but her mother, Marie de Guise (Amy Brenneman).

Now that Francis is clearly alive and well, is it possible that showrunner Laurie McCarthy was trying to fake out fans when she said that Francis' death was inevitable?

"We definitely take liberties with history but there is an element of history that we felt beholden to," McCarthy said in an interview with EW. "The pilot promises his death, it foretells it and it promises that it's going to be a tragic love story."

Well, Francis did technically die, so in that sense his fate has been fulfilled. Right?

It's not likely, given the clip for the coming episode. McCarthy also said the season was "going to be full of twists and turns, but it is going to be a weeper of epic proportions."

Will next week be the end of King Francis? Make sure to catch Reign at 8 p.m. ET on the CW. Check out the trailer below!
