Season 4 of Sherlock, the massively popular crime drama series of the BBC, is expected to be delayed. The new season will return in 2016. The series made Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch such huge stars that Hollywood has a great demand for them now.

The busy schedules of the two co-stars are delaying the filming of Sherlock's next season, explained Mark Gatiss, the co-creator of the series. He also confirmed that Season 4 would be back on TV in 2016. He said that it usually takes two years for a new season to be produced.

Benedict Cumberbatch has gained superstar status with his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. Mark Gatiss views this as the combination of the right part with the right man. It could also be the actor's innate sex appeal as well as his good looks. And don't forget about the coat, which could be a huge contributor to the appeal of the character.

Steven Moffat, the writing partner to Gatiss, said that they have already fully planned Season 4 and Season 5 of the TV series. He also said that they would reveal more details as production of Season 4 approaches, although there is already a hint that Professor Moriarty would be featured in Season 4 and new characters would also be introduced.

A fake death staged by Sherlock in "The Reichenbach Fall" was the ending of Season 2. When Season 3 came back, it explained the cliff hanger with "The Empty Hearse." The opening episode did not have Moriarty, but there was a hint of a new adversary. Sherlock's name was cleared, though, and while away he was actually dismantling the terrorist network of Moriarty's.

Sherlock actually came back when told by his brother about another underground terrorist cell. Watson and Sherlock finally got together after Watson got kidnapped and drugged and rescued. The duo continued to save the day, with the season ending in another cliff hanger, "The Last Vow."
