"Empire" is all new Wednesday night, when Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) will battle Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) for a spot at the top of the music industry.

The ex-spouses are going head-to-head for their younger son Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) who is one of the hottest rappers in the game right now. Lucious challenged Hakeem to a music battle with his new, up-and-coming artist Freda Gatz (Bre-Z).

"If Freda wins, you can have Hakeem back!" Cookie told Lucious in the promo for Episode 8 of Season 2, entitled "My Bad Parts."

In Season 1, after Cookie was first released from prison, she worked with her older son Jamal (Jussie Smollett), while Lucious produced Hakeem's music. Now the tables are turned, and Jamal is at Empire with Lucious, while Hakeem and Cookie are building their startup Lyon Dynasty.

However, the siblings work better musically in their original setup. At one point, Jamal even had to go behind his dad's back to ask for Cookie's help.

Will Lucious really win Hakeem back? What is Cookie gambling on? Given that Hakeem and his new girl group are Lyon Dynasty's hottest artists, where will it leave Cookie and the new label if he heads back to Empire?

Meanwhile, Cookie recently started a new romance with Laz (Adam Rodriguez), an alleged club promoter who seems to be working with Lucious to take over Lyon Dynasty. But is the man falling for her?

When the two were in bed together at one point, he took his shirt off, revealing a long horn tattoo on his back that matches the tattoos on the men who kidnapped Hakeem for ransom. Is Cookie in danger? It also looked like Laz took some pictures of her laptop. Maybe he's just stealing her music so that Lucious can have one up on her when it's time to battle.

Tune into Fox on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET to catch all new episodes of "Empire."
