The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was called to an "active shooter scene" near a Planned Parenthood facility. After an intense several hour standoff, the shooter was captured alive.

In a tweet released at 11:57 a.m. local time, the CSPD wrote, "CSPD PIO responding to call if active shooter in Centennial Bl. The area is NOT secure. Media do not stage in area!"

The CSPD alerted no one was allowed to enter or leave the shopping center. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the CSPD disclosed the media could stage at the ACE hardware store at Centennial Blvd.

According to the Denver Post, the active shooter situation occurred at the Planned Parenthood Colorado Springs' branch located at 3480 Centennial Blvd.

"We were looking out the window and we had an officer wave us back inside," Brigitte Wolfe told Denver Post, who works at the neighboring Jun Japanese Restaurant. "They have everything blocked off."

The Colorado Springs-based CBS affiliate KKTV reported an officer was shot in the hand, while two offers were also wounded but their conditions are unknown. By 1:16 p.m. the Associated Press reported the shooter was "contained."

According to a Colorado Springs law enforcement official, the cops have not detained the shooter, and there is no immediate connection to Planned Parenthood was targetted or if the call to police was simply from someone outside or inside the facility.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. during another police update, the shooter is still "active" and has been shooting towards police. The police official said there is no verification on the number of possible hostages with the shooter, who has kept himself within a building.

By early Friday evening, police managed to secure the shooter alive, but in the process, in total, 11 people were wounded.
