Oscar Isaac is set to star in the political thriller "The Foreigner."

According to Variety, the actor, who will be appearing in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and the next "X-Men," could be joining forces with Latino director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

Gomez-Rejon is apparently in talks to take on the movie, which will be produced by Steve Zaillian. Steven Rales, Garrett Basch and Mark Roybal are also set to produce, while Oscar winner Chris Terrio is slated to write the script for the film.

Variety reports that the film is based on a New Yorker article from 2011 entitled "A Murder Foretold." That article was written by David Grann and tells the story of a Guatemalan man who arranges for the distribution of videos of his killers after his death.

Isaac, who came to the forefront after appearing in Joel and Ethan Coen's "Inside Llewyn Davis," is of Guatemalan descent. The 36-year-old has also appeared in such films as "Drive," "Ex Machina," "A Most Violent Year," "The Two Faces of January," "W.E.," "Sucker Punch" and "Robin Hood," among others.

Aside from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," he will appear as Apocalypse in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse." According to the International Movie Database (IMDb), he is also working on "The Promise," a film by Terry George that will also star Christian Bale.

Gomez-Rejon had been previously linked with "Collateral Beauty," but dropped out of the project before coming onboard for "The Foreigner." He is best known for his recent Sundance hit "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl." That was just his second film after "The Town That Dreaded Sundown."

He also directed episodes in such television series as "Glee," "Red Band Society," "The Carrie Diaries" and "American Horror Story." According to IMDb, he is also attached to direct the film "The Current War," which will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Terrio won an Oscar for his work on "Argo." According to IMDb, he is writing the upcoming "Justice League" movies and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

There is no release date for "The Foreigner."
