A new report floating around shows Apple will be removing the headphone jack from its new model of iPhones coming out next year.

According to Macotakara, a Japanese blog, as translated by USA Today, the next iPhone that is expected to be released in the fall of 2016 will not have the standard jack that most people use for listening to their music or surfing the web.

The report says this move is necessary for Apple to make the next model slimmer and lighter.

Macotara cites reliable sources for its report and there have also been many times (consistently) in the past where their reports have turned out to be true, although other media outlets never got confirmations from the company.

As usual for Apple, the company has declined to comment on this report at this time and they seem to be remaining mum on the subject, at least until they get closer to their launch date next year.

So what does that mean for users of the next iPhone who still want to listen to their music on earphones? Well, you will still be able to do that, but you will have to buy a converter. The iPhone will still allow users to plug into the Lightning port, and the new ear buds that come with this model will have special connections to that port.

For those who have the older earphones with the standard jack, you will have to buy a new adapter that will plug in to the Lightning port to make this feature available to you. You will also still have the option to use a Bluetooth device to listen as well.

There have also been reports in recent days that Apple will have a patent on new technology that will allow owners of the new model to use gloves with their touchscreen iPhone. This is something that is already available on other smartphones, which includes Android and Windows devices.
