The company, which was founded by a couple of students who wanted to earn by renting their mattress, listed luxury villas located in Colorado as well as in the Caribbean Islands.

These expensive NYE rentals are not just private estates but also a personal residence from a larger network of vacation-rental companies. And top of the list is an oceanfront property located in Dominican Republic. So, here are the top 5 most expensive Airbnb NYE rentals.

1. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Cost: $5,720 a night

An oceanfront Dominican Republic villa is the most expensive property booked on Airbnb for the New Year. This beachfront villa feature five bedrooms suited for 12 guests. The resort company-owned property also houses an infinity pool while its lavish price tag comes with perks such as daily maid service, butler service and a fruit basket upon arrival. Even if it's not the holiday season, Punta Cana still costs at least $4,000 a night.

2. Lionsquare North Tower in Vail, Colorado

Cost: $5,198 a night

The Lionsquare North Tower Penthouse in Vail, Colorado took the second spot in Airbnb's most expensive NYE rentals list. This penthouse is steps from a gondola and chairlift but its cost crossed over the $5,000 mark. According to The Journal, the penthouse has a private elevator from the garage. As for its perks, those who choose to rent this place can enjoy fitness classes and a gym as well as heated outdoor pools and hot tubs.

3. WIMCO Villas, St. Barts

Cost: Almost $5,000 a night

This three-bedroom WIMCO-owned Caribbean villa has its own private infinity pool for $4,929 a night over the holidays. Concierge and housekeeping services are free. Depending on the season, guests can book the villa for as low as $1,889 a night.

4. Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Cost: $4,167 a night

For an ultimate skiing experience, the Beaver Mountain Residence is a perfect place to be. The four-bedroom slope-side estate offers a fitness facility, pool and hot tubs as well as some perks like wine cellar and tasting room. During off-season, home rentals are available at $2,400, Stuff noted.

5. Diamond Head Seaside Hideaway in Honolulu, Hawaii

Cost: $3,819 a night

This Hawaiian paradise is only a five-minute drive from the famous Waikiki beach. Guests can enjoy the three-bedroom property that has a hot tub and pool. It can also accommodate up to six people. During off-season, rentals can be about $1,700 a night.
