Comedian and "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver might still be on hiatus from the show, but he didn't want any more days to pass without his fans hearing from him. So in a new video posted by the show, Oliver wished his fans a happy new year and also weighed in on the resolutions people make.

According to Deadline, Oliver came back on Jan. 3 and filmed a quick monologue for those that are still missing him. That was enough to give a few fans some more of his trademark comedy the best way he knows how.

The clip shows Oliver weighing in on the New Year's Resolution theme and why people are hardly ever able to live up to what they commit to in a drunken stupor on New Year's Eve.

For example, most people commit to losing weight by simply exercising more. And while some people may actually do it, Oliver pointed out that "statistically," most will fail soon.

But he said that people should not beat themselves up over not hitting the treadmill because there are so many other ways to get your heart rate up. He cited examples such as "waking up late for work" and "taking a pregnancy test" as alternatives to running on a treadmill, because they both get your heart rate up and force you to burn more calories.

Oliver, who is also well known to point the comedy at himself and considered an equal opportunity offender to those who are the butt of his jokes, couldn't help but to get a critical self-plug into the video speaking about his own show.

"Speaking of managing your disappointment, we will be back on HBO on Feb. 14," Oliver said. "Until then, please, enjoy your failures. Goodbye!"

As Oliver said, the show will indeed be officially off of hiatus on Feb. 14, Valentines Day, and he is sure to be coming back with some great comedy about the nature of love and commercialism.
