On Feb. 3, Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter to reveal his play "Hamilton" will be a part of the upcoming Grammy Awards.

Miranda shared the news on his Twitter account, as did the Recording Academy on their various social media accounts.

"We're going to do the opening number, scream with joy, and then celebrate the fact that we were just on the Grammys. Best night ever," Miranda told USA Today.

"Hamilton" is nominated for Best Musical Theater Album at this year's award ceremony, but for Miranda agreeing to perform was not about the award but about the iconic moments that have taken place at the Grammys.

"I think of Elton John and Eminem, Ricky Martin basically ushering in an ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) with his Cup of Life performance and Jennifer Hudson's incredible Whitney Houston tribute," he explained.

"It's an honor to be a part of this amazing legacy."

Since its Broadway debut in August 2015, "Hamilton" has created major buzz. Besides debuting to great reviews and constantly sold-out shows, it has garnered a lot of attention from the rich and famous.

Stars who have gone to see Miranda's play, which presents American history through hip hop musical numbers, include Oprah, Jay Z, Beyonce, Eminem, Tom Cruise and even Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama.

Several Latino stars have also shown their support for the Puerto Rican-American playwright and the cast, including Rita Moreno, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan and Residente of Calle 13.

The musical is a take on the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and was inspired by the biography of the same name by Ron Chernow.

The 2016 Grammy Awards will air on Feb. 15 on CBS.
