Former UFC and current Bellator MMA light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz finds himself in some trouble with reports that he has been charged with misdemeanor battery at a Las Vegas nightclub.

According to TMZ, authorities were called to the Cromwell hotel at about 1 A.M. when a woman was alleged that Ortiz was trying to get her phone.

Prior to the fracas, the victim was reportedly snapping some pictures at the club. She claims that Ortiz may have mistook her as taking snaps of him at the time, leading to the physical incident.

The woman added that the MMA star tried to “whip her around” that resulted in her being scared for her life.

"He allegedly attempted to take the victim's cell phone, at which point she called police. The result of the incident was a citation for misdemeanor battery," said Laura Meltzer, the public information officer, via ESPN.

No arrests were made when the police arrived. However, the victim plans to pursue legal action against the 41-year-old mixed martial artist.

No court date has been set for the incident though it could be between six to twelve weeks after the citation.

Under Nevada law, a conviction for misdemeanor battery could result in six months in jail plus a $1,000 fine. An alternative could be rendering community service instead, though that would depend on the judge.

The recent development involving Ortiz casts a dark cloud on his upcoming plans. Ortiz is coming off surgery (bone spurs) and had previously hinted via MMAFighting.com his plans to fight once more this year.

"I'm a machine, man. I'll be good. I'll be good in about a month. I'll fight this year, 100 percent."

Two names have surfaced as possible targets for 6-foot-2 American fighter – Fedor Emelianenko and Kimbo Slice. However, Ortiz added that he is looking at a warm-up fight first before taking on the big name fighters.

Ortiz still has about a month to finish his rehab before he can buckle down to training. His earliest date to return could be in March though all that would depend on Bellator.

He was last seen in September when he fought Liam McGeary at Bellator 142. Ortiz lost that one via submission, his first loss on Spike TV.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Ortiz feels he has a whole lot left before truly calling it quits.

However, the recent misdemeanor battery charges may delay his plans, especially if he ends up getting convicted for that unfortunate Las Vegas incident.
