A new trailer for MLB 14 The Show provides an in-depth, visual preview of the much anticipated baseball video game just one week before the next-gen version hits shelves.

The Playstation 3 edition of the game was released in April, but the hype has largely surrounded the anticipated Playstation 4 version. While MLB 14 The Show will most likely not have the same success as NBA 2K14 due to the fact that the baseball game is only on Playstation consoles, the next-gen release still has huge potential. Moreover, the potential is there because this marks the first time that we see a baseball game on the next-gen platforms.

Some of the reviews so far have indicated that there may not be enough changes in this year's game while other reviewers have been pleased with the adjustments. Among the changes is the new ability for gamers to speed up the game by starting at-bats with random pitch counts, as pointed out by Jon Robinson at SI. Another change you will notice has to do with the camera. Starting this year, MLB The Show now provides additional camera views that are more reminiscent of what we might see on TV or even from the perspective of the batter after making contact with a pitch. In addition, if you're bored of playing the role of a player, you can switch things up and take on responsibilities as the manager.

Although the game has not yet been released on the next-gen platform, most gamers are expecting a boost in graphics quality when they are able to upgrade from the PS3 version. IGN's Ryan McCaffrey already had the chance to play and review the next-gen game and it seems like the baseball sim is indeed living up to expectations.

"Now that I've had a chance to play a pair of nine-inning games on PS4 in 1080p, I'm pleased to report that, for the most part, MLB 14: The Show on PlayStation 4 restores the "wow" factor to the long-running hardball sim, giving it graphics that can once again match up to its excellent gameplay," McCaffrey explained.
