India celebrated 70 years of independence on Monday where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country with a speech about a better India for the future.

New Yorkers will gather around on Sunday Aug. 21 to watch the India Day Parade, giving recognition to the nation’s seven-decade span of independence.

2016 India Day Parade in NYC

The Federation of Indian Associations is hosting the 2016 India Day Parade in New York City. This year marks the 36th annual event, where people gather around to watch marchers embrace Indian culture.

The India Day Parade will start on 26th St. and Madison Ave. at 12 p.m. The marchers will travel down Madison Ave. where there will be a review stand on 25th St. and Madison Ave.

There will also be a press stand going towards 25th St. and Madison Ave., for people to talk to reporters about their experience.

Businesses will have food courts and store booths between 24th and 25th Streets. Booths and food places are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., for parade attendees to enjoy rich Indian cuisine.

End of India Day Parade NYC

The 36th annual India Day Parade in NYC will end at E. 23rd St. and Madison Ave. at 6 p.m. 

Several cultural programs will be held starting at 2:30 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. Attendees can engage in the programs on E. 23rd St. up until the Parade ends.

People got to hear PM Modi’s speech ahead of the India Day Parade this year. The prime minister made a change for the public, and stated some memorable quotes.
