Rules are rules and it applies to everyone especially in sports. However, some rules are always broken and the recent incident has taken its toll in the NBA with Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle.

It appears that Carlisle has done this several times this season, despite the fact that he does not have any timeout left in the games. The coach has still called for one, Business Insider reported.

The NBA has its rules and regulations and those who break it will land up paying a penalty. It is certain that the NBA imposed a penalty on Carlisle and the coach had accepted it. He said it is a tactic during blowouts, and he does not care about the penalty as long as he can get extra time to talk to his team.

According to Yahoo, Carlisle stated that "You don't ever really run out of timeouts, they just have a price." The best part is the Mavericks coach has admitted that he has done it in the past and he also done it five times this season.

According to him, he will seize the opportunity only when he has the chance to teach his team or share something with them. As per the rules the penalty for calling a timeout if there is nothing left leads to a free throw to the other team and possession.

What happens if it is a blowout? In that case it is an extra point and extra possession, but it sure does not look like a big deal to the coach as long as he can get his message conveyed.

It seems that Carlisle would prefer the penalty and teach his team what they need at that moment. The Mavericks coach might have his own reasons to it but if a rule is broken then surely the price has to be paid.
